Wright County Obituary Database
Wright County obituary records are held at the Recorder of Deeds in Hartville, the county health department, and the Missouri State Archives. Hartville is the county seat. Wright County has a troubled record history due to fires in 1849, 1862, and 1863 that burned the courthouse, a tornado in 1888, and another fire in 1896 that destroyed court records. Despite these losses, the county still holds marriage records from 1897, land records from 1853, and other files that support obituary research. This page covers the offices, online tools, and databases you can use.

Multiple record losses over the years mean that early Wright County records are incomplete. Marriage records, for example, do not begin until 1897 because of these fires.
